Mark Kearns

Mark Kearns serves as the Senior Technology Lead (Polymer Processing) for Sustainable Polymers & Composites within the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre (AMIC) at Queen’s University Belfast, Northern Ireland.

A Chartered Chemical Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, he holds a master’s degree in Rotational Moulding and brings over 25 years of experience in business development, research, innovation, technology transfer, and industrial support for the rotational moulding sector. His expertise spans polymer processing, product development, and process optimisation, with a particular focus on the design and manufacture of advanced fuel and hydrogen containment vessels.

Mark has led numerous technology transfer initiatives in collaboration with companies and industry associations across Europe, Australasia, South Africa, and the Americas. He is the co-author of three books and more than 60 technical papers and has delivered advanced technical seminars and keynote presentations on rotational moulding technology at leading industry events worldwide.

Introduction to the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre at Queen's University, Belfast: AMIC represents a £100m collaborative, innovative powerhouse of advanced manufacturing. It is being delivered by Queen’s University Belfast in partnership with industry, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council, Ulster University, and supported by the UK Government and NI Executive through the Belfast Region City Deal. AMIC’s mission is to drive growth and competitiveness across the manufacturing sector through the development of, and partnering with, world-class innovation capability. Accelerated by significant capital funding from the Belfast Region City Deal, and operational since 2023,  AMIC incorporates a number of industry facing units in QUB with deep capability in precision engineering, automation, digital manufacturing, polymers processing and composites. Over decades, these teams have served industry through delivering collaborative research and development projects, and through the provision of technical and advisory services.
